In the incident that brought Germany and Poland face to face last month, the fire at the landfill in Zielona Gora further inflamed the ongoing discussions between the two countries on waste management. Observers and environmental activists warn that the illegal waste load is becoming a major problem in Poland, along with inadequate storage and treatment facilities.

Speaking to Euronews, Zielona Gora city councilor Dariusz Legutowski said: "Twenty million euros are needed to dispose of waste and deal with its environmental impact. Now with land reclamation, restoration and conservation, this figure could rise tenfold. This is an ecological disaster." used the phrases.

After the fire, the Polish Ministry of Climate knocked on the door of the European Court of Justice.
Previously, he filed a complaint with the European Commission regarding the shipment of 35 thousand tons of waste allegedly brought illegally from Germany.
Warsaw complained to the Commission last month that Berlin was dumping its waste in landfills on its territory without permission.
